PEOPLE OF THE SOUTHSIDE - Feb/Mar

SOUTHSIDE ROUND UP

The Southside summer is now at its pinnacle and though at times it has felt like we’ve dragged ourselves through muggy, rainy days, it has been nothing short of wonderful.

Allow us to elaborate.

Bellahouston Park welcomed back the Zippos Circus to town. This year was its second consecutive year at the location and it was a night to remember. Featuring family favourites acts as well as all-new spectaculars such as the motorcycle Globe of Death (which saw three riders spinning together at speeds exceeding 60mph) and the amazing Zulu Warriors’ Acrobatic Troupe.

A Southside stronghold in many regards, Big Feed took to the streets this summer to spread their gospel on eating and drinking well. The Tour, as they so coined it, saw the team at Big Feed collaborating with The Merchant City Food Festival a three day event, which celebrated chefs, recipes, music and drinks!

Queens Park Arena also has its fun in the sun recently. As part of a promotional event focusing on sport and a healthy lifestyle the QP Arena was transformed into an interactive experience for all the ages. Over its two days locals got a chance to embrace their inner circus performer and partake in an array of activities such as tightrope walking and parkour.

And who can forget about the Skirving Street Extravaganza? The family friendly day brought together businesses and locals for a celebration of community with music, a Punch and Judy theatre show and believe it or not a BBQ.

It may not have been the hottest summer on records for many of us but we can’t help and smile as we look over the last two months. We’ve had our fair share of world-class events, local community get-togethers and look ahead to start of autumn, which will undoubtedly bring its own share of events and promotions for us all to enjoy.
