Govanhill Carnival Parade

3rd August

The Govanhill International Festival and Carnival is back for its third year, running from the 1st to the 11th August. The highlight of the festival is without a doubt the Carnival Parade, which will take place on Saturday 3rd August. Celebrating the unique diversity of Govanhill, the parade will begin in Govanhill Park, heading down Victoria Road before ending at Queen’s Park Arena where the carnival will be held. The parade will feature music from a pipe band, brass band, choirs, singers, dancers, drummers, campaigners and performers, and even Chinese lion dancers. This amazing celebration of the diversity of the Southside is not to be missed!

Playground Festival Rouken Glen Park

2nd-4th August

Between this and the Queen’s Park Parties in the Park, we’re loving all these new openair music events to rival those in the city centre and west end! Playground Festival is a brand new music festival coming to 2016’s UK Park of the Year this August. The festival boasts an impressive international line-up including Lauryn Hill, Hot Chip and Groove Armada. We can’t wait to check out this new local festival.

Giffnock Beer Festival - GHA Rugby Club

24th August

Giffnock Beer Festival returns to GHA Rugby Club this August to bring some of the best Scottish beers, ciders, gins and prosecco to the Southside. This year, the festival will even feature a margarita truck! But the day is not all about drinking – there are activities, fair ground rides and face painting for the kids to enjoy while you enjoy trying some of the best beers from Scotland, including from indie Glaswegian breweries such as Late Night Hype Brewing and Merchant City Brewing Co. Slàinte!

A Collaborative Exhibition

Running until 8th September, Studio Pavilion at House for an Art Lover If you’re interested in art, this exhibition is not to be missed. The collaborative project explores the idea of domestic mess, as the artists elevate traditional ‘women’s work’ into the realm of art. With such a relatable subject, this is sure to make an interesting visit for most of us!

Queen’s Park Harvest Fayre

7th – 8th September

Queen’s Park has really proven to be the place to be this summer with its array of events! The Harvest Fayre is set to be another fantastic event, as the first food fair of its kind to be held at the park. The event seeks to raise awareness of sustainability issues and promote local produce grown through green initiatives. Throughout the day you’ll be able to taste different local cuisine from a range of stalls, attend educational workshops about food waste and enjoy some fantastic local entertainment.
